Police in the West Midlands of the United Kingdom determined that what appeared to be a dead body in the woods was a discarded sex doll, according to reports.
A hiker walking along a country lane in Warwickshire noticed a foot and a hand sticking out in the undergrowth and reported it to the Warwickshire Police, a local told The Sun. The police, arriving with a forensics team, reportedly cordoned off the road and combed the area for clues for 31 hours, from around midday Oct. 17 until 7 p.m. the following day.
“When they finally dragged the ‘corpse’ out they realised the blunder. The officers had a big laugh about it. It was a very dirty, broken and overused sex doll,” the local said, per The Sun. The doll reportedly was estimated to cost £1,500 (nearly $1,840).

“It is with great relief that we can announce that the pathologist was able to identify that the foot and hand beneath the bush did in fact belong to a discarded and realistic life-size doll,” a police spokesperson said, per the BBC. “We thank the person who contacted us on discovery – the call was made in good faith – and also we extend our thanks to the local people for their patience while we investigated the matter.”
Warwickshire Police said it had followed “proper procedure,” according to The Sun.

In a similar case, Harris County police in Houston, Texas, responded to a report of an apparent dead female stuffed in a bag and abandoned in a wooded area June 14. Two hours later, they found out it was “not a body,” but instead a life-sized silicone doll in undergarments, The Dallas Express reported. The police reportedly found two actual human bodies in the area days before the doll discovery.
