A swarm of escaped bees killed four dogs owned by a Palmdale, California, family earlier in October, ABC 7 reported Monday.

Rebecka Lopez and Daniel Giron described a harrowing scene that unfolded in their backyard with what seemed “like a thousand bees” attacking their dogs, according to ABC 7. The couple lost two English bulldogs, Sansa and Pancake, and two Dobermans, Drogo and Khalisse, the outlet reported.

“The attack was swift and overwhelming, leaving our dear furry friends with hundreds of painful stings,” Giron said, according to FOX 11. “If I remember correctly the vet said she pulled out 900 stingers from our puppy Pancake’s ears.”

Giron’s wife called him on FaceTime while he was at work to show him the horrific scene, ABC 7 reported.

“When she flipped over the camera, I saw my poor little Sansa covered in bees trying to swat them away rolling around in the ground and she tried to run to safety. As my spouse sat there behind the window unable to open it because our kids were inside,” Giron said. (RELATED: Bees Kill 64 Endangered Penguins In Freak Swarm)

Although the couple rushed the dogs to the vet, there was little chance to save them, according to ABC 7.

After returning home, the couple went around the neighborhood warning others of the swarm and allegedly finding out that the bees had belonged to one of the neighbors and had escaped, the outlet reported.

“His negligence – our dogs had to suffer and pay for. I hate the night because I’m going to have nightmares about what happened again. In the morning, I hate waking up because I would always see them sunbathing right here by the window every morning and when I wake up, I don’t see them anymore,” Lopez said.

Lopez and Giron reported that they have started a GoFundMe page to cover the costs of the vet’s bill and damages to their home, ABC 7 reported. They also said they’re looking into legal action against the neighbor, according to the outlet.

“Sansa, Khalessi, Pancake and Drogo are not just pets; they are cherished members of our family,” Giron wrote on the GoFundMe page.
