Diners and staff in Martin, Tennessee, got the surprise of their lives when a deer launched itself through a restaurant window Monday night.

Venison was almost on the menu for a family dining out at The Grind restaurant. The Hayes Family, along with Alicia Owens and her daughter, were enjoying their meal when the buck launched itself through the window, according to The Tennessean.

In footage shared by AccuWeather, you can see the animal run up to the glass window overlooking the roadway, before it hurls itself forward. Its back hoof clipped the shoulder of Ruby Hayes, 13, causing a wound that needed 11 stitches to close up. She was treated at the West Tennessee Healthcare Volunteer Hospital before being released home.

“It’s sliding on the glass. It can’t get its footing. It’s frantically trying to get up,” Owens told the Tennessean. “I couldn’t comprehend it was actually a deer. We’re in the middle of town, across the street from the University of Tennessee Martin. It’s like, what in the world?”

The deer made its way to the back of the restaurant before a patron fatally shot it with a handgun, Owens noted. (RELATED: Family Repeatedly Attacked By Insane, Horny Animal)

“Ruby was shaking a lot. But she never cried,” Owens noted. “She just really didn’t know what hit her.”

And we’re not surprised! The buck seemed to be going a million miles an hour!
