A post shared Thursday on Twitter detailed how rich liberals in Vancouver, Canada, are annoyed that Indigenous people are developing land in the city that is rightfully theirs.

It is a pretty simple story once you cut out the fat: a group of rich liberals apparently protested for ages to get Vancouver to return land to the local Squamish First Nation populations, according to the post. The land is said to represent some of the last plots of underdeveloped scenery throughout the region, and “was sold to local tribes.”

The tribe is now razing the land in order to build an ultra-high-density condo project called Sen̓áḵw, MacLeans reported. The development will reportedly include 11 towers. These will apparently be up to 49-stories high with a density three-times that of Hong Kong. Apparently 72% of Vancouverites oppose the proposal, which feels pretty damn hypocritical and hilarious given the scope of the situation.

The entire situation feels like these liberal idiots have basically said, “I know we said this land all belongs to you, but you were supposed to sit around living off grid like you did before our ancestors messed everything up, mostly so we could continue indulging in our noble savage myth.” And of course, God forbid somebody actually build some damn housing in Vancouver (where a roof over your head is famously unaffordable) and drive down the value of these rich liberals’ investment properties. One Twitter user, who appears to claim a Native heritage, wrote, “everyone is shocked how fast north [Vancouver] is being developed on Squamish lands. They’re building 6 super towers. They really thought we wanted our land back to leave it as a dog park,” along with a laughing-face emoji.

“When you’re building 30, 40-storey high rises out of concrete, there’s a big gap between that and an Indigenous way of building,” some urban developer called Gordon Price told a reporter back in 2022, MacLeans reported. I wanted to throw up in my hands from laughter and awkwardness hearing an old white man say something like this, and I’m not even slightly woke or liberal.

Like, sorry the natives don’t want to sit around in wigwams performing “Colors of the Wind” for your dumb paternalistic ass.

I mean, is it just me or can we always depend on Canada to come out with stuff as stupid and ignorant as this?
