Pierce Brosnan, who famously donned the 007 mantle through the 1990s and early 2000s, speaks up on Aaron Taylor-Johnson reportedly landing the iconic role Friday on “The Ray D’Arcy Show” on RTÉ Radio 1.

The former “James Bond” star expresses support for Taylor-Johnson to be the next James Bond. With many rumors about who will follow Daniel Craig after his last Bond movie in 2021, Brosnan’s endorsement is a big boost for Taylor-Johnson.

“I think the man has the chops and the talent and the charisma to play Bond, very much so,” Brosnan told Ray D’Arcy.

Brosnan’s praise for Taylor-Johnson goes beyond his professional reputation; it’s also rooted in their shared experience on the 2009 drama “The Greatest.” Brosnan, who both acted in and produced the film, recalls Taylor-Johnson’s standout role. “One of the first movies we made, one of our earliest movies, was The Greatest – and he was in it,” Brosnan recalled. “He was The Greatest in it. It’s a lovely movie with Aaron and Carey Mulligan and Susan Sarandon and myself.”

Brosnan encouraged Taylor-Johnson to take on the iconic role with enthusiasm and confidence. “So yes, I read the news about his possibilities of being a Bond, so I would definitely tip my hat to the fellow,” he added. “Be bold. Go out there, have a great time. Just love it. Just go for it.”

Brosnan played James Bond from “GoldenEye” in 1995 to “Die Another Day” in 2002, according to Deadline. When asked about the film’s allure back in the day, the actor candidly recounted the interest it garnered at the time.

“There’s always been interest, there’s always been deep fascination and curiosity… from the audience of who shall be James Bond. And it’s generational, it’s been passed on,” the actor continued.

Taylor-Johnson, recognized for his performance in “Bullet Train,” has now been backed by two previous Bonds, including the lead from “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” Deadline reported.
