Charley Hull, the world’s No. 8 ranked women’s golfer, was smoking a cigarette following a practice round Tuesday at the U.S. Open, a video posted by GOLF.com shows.
For golf fans, this moment immediately drew comparisons online to PGA legend John Daly, known most popularly for smoking and drinking while on the course.

Hull, from England, was seen smoking ahead of the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open while signing an autograph for a fan in a video. As the imagery made its way to social media, golf fans expressed their admiration for Hull’s laid-back demeanor.
“I’m in love!” one X user replied to the parody account @PGATUOR‘s post of a screenshot of the scene.

Other commenters on both Twitter and Instagram questioned whether she was in fact smoking. A third group criticized her for it.
This isn’t the first time people took note of Hull smoking while on the golf course. She was also seen smoking on the course at a Jersey City tournament the week prior, according to The Spun.
The 2024 U.S. Women’s Open’s first round is expected to begin Thursday and end Sunday, the outlet reported.
