An elderly person managed to stop an alleged carjacker from escaping by holding on to the leg of the suspect Saturday, Florida’s Ormond Police Department (OBPD) said in a press release.

Marvette Perry, the 36-year-old suspect, was allegedly trying to steal the car of an elderly couple, the police posted on Facebook. The occupant who grabbed the suspect’s leg was a man, the arrest affidavit reads, according to Click Orlando. (RELATED: Grandparents Fend Off Carjackers, Defend Grandkids Who Were In Back Seat)

An unnamed good Samaritan aided the elderly man by initially drawing a firearm on the suspect, but eventually withdrew it once he realized that Perry was unarmed, the police said in the post. The good Samaritan told police he was drawn to the scene because he noticed the suspect was acting “weird” and then saw the alleged carjacking in progress, Click Orlando reported.

The duo managed to hold Perry until the police arrived and despite Perry allegedly resisting arrest, she was placed into custody, the police posted. “She was charged with multiple offenses, including carjacking, burglary with assault, and resisting an officer,” the OBPD said.

Police Chief Robert J. Godfrey praised the actions of all involved in capturing the alleged carjacker in the press release. “‘Our officer’s quick response, the bravery of the good Samaritan, and the resilience of the elderly couple were instrumental in preventing a potentially dangerous situation from escalating,'” the chief said.

The car’s occupants were not injured during the alleged attempted carjacking, the OBPD said. Perry was in custody without bond, according to records, Click Orlando reported. She was reportedly expected in court Sunday.
