Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign website apparently used code from President Joe Biden’s policy page to create its long-awaited “issues tab,” a social media user pointed out Sunday.
More than a month into her run for the White House, Harris’ campaign unveiled a policy platform on its website. One twitter user, Corinne Green, noticed that the page appeared to use metadata that caused language encouraging Americans to vote for Biden to pop up when they tried to share or look up the issues page. The rest of the Harris campaign website appears to have its own metadata, except for the issues tab, Green posted on Twitter. Green later wrote that once she had pointed out the problem on social media, the Harris campaign issues tab appeared to no longer use metadata from Biden’s policy page.

In the few weeks of Harris’ campaign, Axios reported that the vice president was plotting to distance herself from Biden just days after White House press secretary touted the duo as “critical partners.” Anonymous advisers told Axios that Harris was aiming to separate herself from the president’s economic policy, specifically on inflation and price increases.
Despite the reports, Harris’ campaign website makes frequent mention of Biden and the administration.
“As Vice President, she supported the bipartisan border security bill, the strongest reform in decades. The legislation would have deployed more detection technology to intercept fentanyl and other drugs and added 1,500 border security agents to protect our border,” a section of the issues tab reads. “After Donald Trump killed the border deal for his political gain, she and President Biden took action on their own—and now border crossings are at the lowest level in 4 years, their administration is seizing record amounts of fentanyl, and secured funding for the most significant increase in border agents in ten years.”
While hugging Biden tight on her policy platform, Harris’ new issues tab fails to address several flip-flops her campaign aides have made for her. When Harris made a run for the White House in 2020, she supported a ban on fracking, supported mandatory federal gun buybacks and the abolition of private health insurance. But throughout August, Harris’ aides have issued anonymous statements reversing the vice president’s previous comments.
When Harris sat down for her only primetime interview since launching her campaign, she failed to explain why her aides have reversed course on several issues. CNN’s Dana Bash asked Harris how she expected Americans to view her policy platform given that she had yet to unveil one and was flip-flopping on various issues.
“I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is that my values have not changed,” Harris began.
“You mentioned the green New Deal. I have always believed, and I have worked on it, that the climate crisis is real, that it is an urgent matter to which we should apply metrics that include holding ourselves to deadlines around time. We did that with the inflation Reduction Act. We have set goals for the United States of America, and by extension, the globe around when we should meet certain standards for reducing house gas emissions, as an example. That value has not changed,” she continued.
