The rush to fill Sen. Evan Bayh’s seat in Indiana is on.

So far, three Republicans — including former Sen. Dan Coats — say they have enough signatures to meet today’s deadline to file for the primary.

The others are State Sen. Marlin Stutzman, who filed today, and financial adviser Don Bates Jr., who has already filed.

Speaking to supporters on hand to witness him file the necessary signatures, Stutzman said: “As I speak with Hoosiers one thing is clear – people want to change Washington, not change America.”

No Democrats met the filing deadline. As USA TODAY’s John Fritze explained in today’s story that means the party leaders have until June 30 to pick a nominee, under state law.
