In one of the tightest Senate races of the cycle, West Virginia’s Democratic Gov. Joe Manchin is once again ahead, according to the latest poll.

The seesaw battle has seen multiple lead changes in recent weeks, but a new Rasmussen poll shows Manchin up by three percent over Republican opponent John Raese. Neither of the men cracks the important 50 percent barrier. Manchin falls just short with 49 percent while Raese pulled in 46 percent.

The poll comes amid news that federal investigators expanded their investigation of the Manchin administration, a decision that garnered plenty of attention in West Virginia and Washington.

Manchin himself has not been directly implicated in the ongoing federal investigation but Democrats in the state are worried that the investigation will hurt the governor at the polls. The probe is not expected to end until well after election day, according to Politico.
