McSorley’s Old Ale House has received a lawsuit from Cheryl Sibley, a 53-year-old customer who says she suffered “serious injuries” from Minnie The Second, the resident tabby cat.

Ms Sibley, of Hasbrouck Height, New Jersey, alleges her wounds were so severe she had to go to hospital. She is demanding compensation from Matthew Maher, the owner of 156-year-old bar.

McSorley’s is thought to be the oldest continually-open bar in the city. Mr Maher, who has owned it since 1977, said he had “no recollection of any attack” by the cat.
