It looks like Spirit Airlines is taking its advertising inspiration from Herman Cain.

The low-cost carrier is running an email promotion called the “9-9-9” deal — with one-way fares for $9.

“Let’s get real … America can’t wait until 2012, you need a vacation now!” says the offer. “With our 9-9-9 Vacation Plan, we have real solutions to reduce spending with fares from just $9 each way.”

The email is written in red, white, and blue and features a background of stars and stripes.

Spirit may be cashing in on the sudden popularity of presidential contender Herman Cain’s “9-9-9″ tax plan. Cain’s signature economic proposal was mentioned a whopping 25 times in Tuesday night’s Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire.

Spirit Airlines CEO Ben Baldanzo has been quoted in USA Today as saying that his airline has been able to provide cheap fares “by using edgy, viral marketing.”

One of the company’s more controversial and edgy marketing campaigns was a $39 fare, offered to customers who played a computer game whose goal was to dig for the body of American labor union leader Jimmy Hoffa. Winners were redirected to a web page which read “You found Hoffa!”

Spirit also took advantage of the Anthony Weiner twitter scandal by offering “The Weiner Sale: With Fares Too HARD To Resist.”

The headline for the email promotion included “Want To See Our Weiner?”
