Two of the Obama administration’s favorite things are:
- Spamming
- Encouraging Americans to inform on their neighbors
So it’s a very special thing when they figure out how to do both at the same time!
President Obama’s campaign operation hit upon a new fundraising pitch “this holiday season,” as they’ve asked supporters to make a campaign donation “inspired” by somebody else.
“This holiday season,” Obama’s campaign announced today, “you can give to the 2012 campaign because of someone else—maybe a friend or family member.” If you donate in the name of a loved one, the campaign will “send them a message letting them know they inspired you to donate.”
As James Taranto puts it, “The Obama campaign is deliberately sending spam to people who never signed up for it… Probably this is just what the campaign presents it to be–a juvenile prank that is harmless beyond the nuisance of receiving campaign spam. Then again, remember AttackWatch.com? The Obama campaign has a history of clumsy appeals with vaguely totalitarian overtones.”
Hmmmm. This Taranto fellow seems… fishy.
