Mitt Romney said he will “probably” release his tax returns in April.

The former Massachusetts governor made the comments during Monday night’s Republican presidential debate in South Carolina. (Full coverage of the 2012 elections)

“That’s probably what I’d do,” he said.

“I hadn’t planned on releasing tax records because the law requires us to release all of our assets, all the things we own — that I’ve already released,” he said. “It’s a pretty full disclosure.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on Sunday called on Romney to release his tax returns. Democrats and liberal advocacy groups have long been doing the same.

During the debate, Texas Gov. Rick Perry also called on Romney to make his tax filings public.

“Mitt, we need for you to release your income tax so the people of this country can see how you made your money,” he said to applause. “I think that’s a fair thing.”
