Global positioning systems are the most widely used and effective tracking technologies ever developed, but even they can be blocked by things like buildings, bridges and tunnels —- until now.
The u-blox “3D Automotive Dead Reckoning” chip uses an accelerometer and gyroscope along with a car’s built-in odometer to track your course and heading, even when GPS signals are intermittent, blocked or out of range.
U-blox does not specify whether the chips will be made available to the public or sold exclusively to manufacturers.
