Vogue, the once highly respected fashion, style and culture Bible, has put Kim Kardashian — a paragon of class — on its April cover.
The reality star and her fiancee Kanye West are dressed in wedding attire in the cover shot by the formerly groundbreaking Annie Leibovitz, who is more of a Photoshopper these days than a photographer. (The headline below the photo uses a hashtag, which cannot even be discussed at this moment because it is so infuriating.)
Kanye has been in the higher echelons of the fashion world for several years because of a vocal interest in and knowledge of haute couture art, despite the fact that he has been known to wear leather leggings and clear backpacks.
Kim, however, has been oft-ridiculed for her trashy fashion sense that is more well-suited to the E! Network than it is to the Givenchy runway until Kanye started dressing her. She wore this…thing…just three years ago, which is decidedly NOT en vogue.
Rumors circulating around fashion and gossip blogs since last year claimed that Vogue editrix Anna Wintour REFUSED to ever put Kardashian on the cover of the magazine because of her reputation as a sex tape star and fame whore, no matter how much West begged her to give his baby mama a cover. Wintour even held out for a couple of years before putting Kate Upton on the cover because of her less runway and more Playboy looks.
Alas, Wintour was defeated and now a reality star who is famous because she had sex with her boyfriend while on a vacation and filmed it is on the cover.
To Wintour’s credit, West looks dapper and Kardashian looks quite beautiful on the cover.
But COME ON! This is a magazine that once featured Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford on its cover, who have now been replaced by Lena Dunham and the Kardashians.
