“You’re giggling like a moron at someone’s pain and ruin,” was just one of the comments aired by a TV station promoting their morning show. WGN-TV Chicago decided to read on air some of the harsher comments viewers sent in criticizing the behavior and coverage of the four morning hosts.
Anchor Larry Potash opened the video, “In a phony world of cheery morning news anchors, where ad libbing is pretty harmless, there is one team that sucks the happiness out of happy talk, but we aren’t for everyone.”
The negative comments about the hosts’ behavior and coverage continued, “I will never watch your station. I was disgusted by their behavior,” wrote Wilma Heather.
“Sorry Wilma,” Potash quipped.
Potash saved the harshest critic for last. Anish Kapoor wrote, “F@#k you. You guys suck in the morning. Nobody watches you in the morning.”
While the comments seemed harsh, the promo ends with the caption “WGN 9 Morning News: the highest rated news show that nobody f@#king likes.” After the promo, the four hosts of the morning show all have a laugh at the expense of the commentators, and ask for more. “We have a complaint line,” Potash continued, asking for more viewers to call in and complain.
