Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer has a reputation of recruiting players who get arrested — and even has a track record that goes all the way back to his days at the University of Florida.

Now, Ohio quarterback superstar JT Barrett, one of the most successful players to ever play for Meyer, was arrested for drunk driving after blowing a BAC of .099 on Saturday, according to Fox 28.

Meyer suspended the underage Barrett for only one game, a move viewed by many as a slap on the wrist.

Just days before Barrett’s arrest, Meyer went on “The O’Reilly Factor” where he criticized Florida State coach Jimbo Fischer for being too lenient on former quarterback Jameis Winston for stealing crab legs from a grocery store.

Barrett was arrested after he tried to avoid a DUI checkpoint, and was later released to Cardale Jones, who he recently replaced as the starting quarterback, according to ESPN.

Urban Meyer has won three national championships for college football, but has never been able to shake the reputation of recruiting shady characters. During Meyer’s time at Florida there were more than 30 players arrested — and that’s not including Aaron Hernandez who was later convicted of murder, according to Sporting News.

Meyer’s refusal to suspend Barrett for more than one game has drawn strong criticism from several people in the sports community who feel Meyer is beginning to cultivate the same culture that plagued his time at Florida.
