Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said, “I think there are fair questions being raised about the extent to which Bernie Sanders is losing control of his campaign.”

Monday on “MSNBC Live,” Fallon, regarding the “Bernie Bros” controversy, told NBC’s Chris Jansing, “Senator Sanders at the outset pledged to run a different type of campaign and that means he needs to be held to a high standard.” (RELATED: Accused Rapist Bill Clinton Complains That ‘Bernie Bros’ Are ‘Profane’ And ‘Sexist’)

Regarding former secretary of state Madeleine Albright’s claim that there’s “a special place in hell” for women who don’t vote for Hillary Clinton, Jansing said, “I’ve heard a lot of young women say they were offended by that, they’re offended by the idea they should vote for Hillary Clinton just because she’s a woman. Was that, do you think she wouldn’t have said it?” (RELATED: Clinton Campaign Refuses To Disavow Gloria Steinem’s Sexist Remarks [VIDEO])

Fallon replied, “I think that comment has been misinterpreted. That’s a line she has used for years.”

Jansing interjected, “And maybe some would say belongs back in the ’60s or ’70s or ’80s.”

“Well, I even saw that on a Starbucks coffee cup a few years ago, it’s something that she’s used for years in other contexts; talking about female empowerment,” Fallon said, defending Albright’s assertion.

“Look, Hillary Clinton, the fact she’s a female is an important attribute of hers. I think that it means she would bring a unique perspective to the Oval office, one we haven’t had with any of the 44 presidents to date. But we know women are not going to vote for her or any voter is not going to vote for her, simply on her gender. Nor are we asking them to. We’re pleased to have strong support among women generally. We know that Bernie Sanders is going to pick up support from women as well, and we respect that,” Fallon claimed. (RELATED: Hillary: I Can’t Be The Establishment, I’m A Woman! [VIDEO])

“And do you accept Bernie Sanders is at his word, what he just said to Kate Snow that they’re looking into this whole Bernie Bros alleged incident and he doesn’t want anyone who is sexist or making sexist remarks associated with his campaign?” Jansing asked.

“I think there are fair questions being raised about the extent to which Bernie Sanders is losing control of his campaign,” Fallon insisted. “This was a question raised by Rachel Maddow at the debate the other night. And it’s not just with respect to this online following of his that does sometimes engage in crude humor and sexist comments.”

“You also see it, today the American Legion is calling on the Sanders campaign, threatening them with legal action if they don’t stop using imagery with the, of the American Legion, implying that he has their endorsement with out their permission. You’ve also seen the Sanders campaign come under criticism in Nevada over the fact they had campaign workers posing as culinary union members there and engaging in deceitful practices,” Fallon claimed. “Senator Sanders at the outset pledged to run a different type of campaign and that means he needs to be held to a high standard.”

Jansing followed up asking if Fallon thought any candidate or campaign could “have control over” what their supporters say on social media.

“Absolutely not,” Fallon replied. “They can’t have full control, but it is the responsibility of every campaign to try to keep the conversation at a high level.”
