Republican presidential candidates Sen. [crscore]Ted Cruz[/crscore] and Sen. [crscore]Marco Rubio[/crscore] ganged up on GOP primary front-runner Donald Trump during the Fox News debate Thursday.
Both Rubio and Cruz hit Trump on the New York billionaire’s current legal troubles with the for-profit educational institution Trump University. Rubio called Trump University a “scam.”
“He’s trying to do to the American voter what he did for the people that signed up for this course. He’s making promises he has no intention of keeping and it won’t just be $36,000 that they lose, it’s our country that’s at stake here,” Rubio said.
He added, “The future of the United States and the most important election in a generation and he’s trying to con people into giving them their vote just like he conned these people into giving him their money.”
Cruz slammed Trump for the real estate mogul’s large donation to the Clinton Global Initiative and her past campaigns.
“If we nominate Donald, we’re going to spend the fall and the summer with the Republican nominee facing a fraud trial and Hillary Clinton saying, ‘Why did you give my campaign and my foundation $100,000’ and with Hillary Clinton pointing out that he supported her four times in a presidential…the stakes are too high.”
Both Cruz and Rubio scolded Trump repeatedly for interrupting their remarks. Cruz asked Trump to “breathe” as well as “count to ten” two separate times.
