Ben Carson is expected to endorse his once rival Donald Trump in the Republican presidential race, according to multiple reports.

The Washington Post said the endorsement was finalized after Carson met with the New York businessman Thursday at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. ABC News also confirmed the expected endorsement.

Appearing on Fox News Radio’s John Gibson Show, Carson was asked about supporting Trump and said: “Let’s put it this way, I’m certainly leaning.”

“Well, you know there are two Donald Trumps,” Carson said. “There’s the Donald Trump that you see on television and who gets out in front of big audiences, and there’s the Donald Trump behind the scenes. They’re not the same person. One’s very much an entertainer, and one is actually a thinking individual.”

Earlier on Thursday, in a conversation with The Daily Caller, Armstrong Williams, a Carson confidante, said he expected the doctor to endorse “the person who has the best shot at beating Hillary Clinton.”

“You’ve got to unify the party with the best person that can move it forward and defeat Hillary Clinton in November,” Williams said.

When polls last year showed the race between Trump and Carson getting competitive, especially in Iowa, Trump went on the attack against Carson. Carson dropped out of the race after a poor Super Tuesday finish.
