Miss District of Columbia was crowned Miss USA 2016 during the annual pageant in Las Vegas Sunday night.
DeShauna Barber is a 26-year-old who was born in Georgia, but moved multiple times because her father was in the military.
She is the Logistics Commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Fort Meade, Md.
When asked about the Pentagon opening up all combat roles to women earlier this year, Barber had an answer prepared.
“As a woman in the United States Army, I think it was an amazing job by our government to allow women to integrate into every branch of the military,” Barber answered. “We are just as tough as men.” (RELATED: This Contestant Had A Powerful Answer When Asked About Women Serving In The Military)
