The Chicago Police Department might open an investigation into a video where an officer was caught bashing the head of a suspect identified as Shaquille O’Neal.

A video posted Monday to Facebook shows a Chicago cop hitting a suspect in the head, prompting Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson to ask the Independent Police Review Authority to open an investigation into the matter.

WATCH:

“Upon viewing the video, Superintendent Johnson immediately asked the Independent Police Review Authority to investigate the matter while the department gathers more information about the case,” the department said in a statement.

The video shows a Chicago officer attempting to arrest the perpetrator. When another officer arrives to help, he calls for backup and then proceeds to kick O’Neal in the head as he tries to get away.

24-year-old O’Neal was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital after being knocked unconscious, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

“The Chicago Police Department holds its members to the highest possible professional standards with a priority on treating all Chicagoans with respect,” the Chicago Police Department said in a statement.
