Anton Yelchin died almost instantly after being pinned by his car between a security gate and a brick mailbox in a freak car accident, a new report claims.

A new report claims that the 27-year-old actor, known for his role playing Chekov in “Star Trek,” was killed within a minute after he suffered fatal injuries to his chest and head, sources told TMZ. (RELATED: ‘Star Trek’ Star Dead At 27 Following Car Accident)

On Sunday, the actor had failed to show up for rehearsal and friends went to find him. He was found outside his home crushed by his car and pinned between a security gate and a brick mailbox.

Police said he may have momentarily exited his car when it rolled backward, causing his death. (RELATED: The Car That Killed ‘Star Trek Actor’ Had Been Recalled For Gear Defect)

The jeep that Yelchin was driving had been part of a recall last month, due to a faulty gear. Manufacturers warned drivers that they could be hit by their car if it was in park without applying the emergency brake.
