Former Vice President Al Gore may not be attending the Democratic National Convention this year, but he’s finally relented and admitted he’ll vote for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the fall.

Gore’s office told reporters he will not attend the convention in Philadelphia this week, citing “obligations in Tennessee.” But the move fueled speculations Gore was not that enthused with Clinton despite serving as vice president under her husband former President Bill Clinton during the 1990s.
Gore even told Politico Magazine in 2014 it was “premature” to back any Democratic candidate, and he instead focused on raising the alarm about global warming. Gore even had some doubts about Clinton’s environmental credentials.
“I don’t have any doubt that her heart is in the right place on the issue and that she would like to be an agent for positive change on the issue,” Gore told Politico of Clinton’s global warming stance.
A Gore staffer told Politico the former VP would endorse the candidate who got the Democratic nomination this year, which happens at the end of the party’s convention. But since Clinton is the presumptive nominee, Gore probably feels safe endorsing her.
