Donald Trump is being criticized because he said his daughter should quit her job if someone sexually harassed her at work.
During an interview with Kirsten Powers published in “USA Today“ Tuesday, the Republican nominee was asked about the recent sexual allegations made against Roger Ailes at Fox News. Powers asked Trump what he would tell Ivanka Trump to do if she was in a similar situation.
“I would like to think she would find another career or find another company if that was the case,” Trump said to Powers. (RELATED: Trump Gets Asked About Chelsea And Ivanka’s Friendship — You’ve Got To See What Was Said)
“There was quite a bit of fabulous things said [about Ailes by Gretchen Carlson],” he added. “It would be easier for me and more politically correct for me to say you are right. But you would think she wouldn’t say those things.”
In her piece, Powers criticized Trump because she said he had an “outdated understanding of the dynamics of sexual harassment.”
“Most women don’t have the financial resources of Ivanka,” she wrote. “They can’t afford to quit their job without another in hand, something that is impossible to do when you are under contract and forbidden to speak to competitors. Most importantly, why should a woman be expected to upend her career just because she ended up in the crosshairs of some harasser?”
“Moreover, ‘hot’ and ‘beautiful’ and ‘leggy’ women don’t cause sexual harassment. Women of all kinds are victims of sexual harassment in every type of office environment. Sexual harassment — like rape — is about exerting power, not out-of-control male hormones.”
