Speaking to a crowd in Virginia, the Republican nominee joked about the wailing baby.

“I love babies,” Trump said. “I hear that baby cry, I like it. What a baby. What a beautiful baby. Don’t worry, don’t worry. The mom’s running around, like, don’t worry about it, you know. It’s young and beautiful and healthy, and that’s what we want.”

“Actually I was only kidding, you can get the baby out of here,” he said. “I think she really believed me that I love having a baby crying while I’m speaking. That’s okay. People don’t understand. That’s okay.”

In a video she made, Devan Cierra Ebert said it was all in good humor.

“My baby wouldn’t calm down, so I decided to leave on my own and excuse myself so I wasn’t interrupting anybody else,” Ebert said.

“After Vinnie, my son, calmed down, we actually returned to the auditorium. I never actually heard Mr. Trump’s second remark because I was on my way out. Even when I heard it later on when I got home, I laughed because he made the whole thing a lighthearted situation, and more of a comic relief than anything.”
