The USS Jackson was hit with three 10,000-pound explosives in July, but the attacks did not come from an enemy force — they came from the Navy itself.
Video footage released by the Navy Saturday shows the explosions were no accident, as the Navy was putting the Jackson through shock trials before sending it off to sea.
While it may seem strange to detonate tens of thousands of pounds of explosives near a $360 million ship, the tests are routine for new vessels. Fortunately for the Jackson, the explosions were not direct hits, though they certainly rocked the ship.

The Navy and the ship’s manufacturer reported that the Jackson performed well in the July trials, suffering only minor damage.
