Republican Senators responded to reports Monday President Donald Trump allegedly shared highly classified information with the Russians in a recent meeting.

“The White House has got to do something soon to bring itself under control and in order,” Sen. Bob Corker said in a press statement. “It’s got to happen … Obviously, they’re in a downward spiral right now and they’ve got to figure out a way to come to grips with all that’s happening. To compromise a source is something that you just don’t do.”

Sen. John McCain asserted that the information was “disturbing,” but also reaffirmed the fact that the president has the legal right to reveal any information he chooses. “We certainly don’t want any president to leak classified information but the president does have the right to do that,” he said.

“If it’s accurate, it’d be troubling,” Sen. Lindsey Graham said about the possibility that Trump released classified information.

The reports from The Washington Post, Buzzfeed, Reuters and others are based on anonymous U.S. officials. The Trump administration has denied he shared “sources” or “methods” with the Russians in the meeting with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, although Trump defended his right to share sensitive information in a series of tweets.

Sen. Marco Rubio declined to comment, saying that he hadn’t seen the story yet.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said that he wanted a “full explanation” of the facts of the matter from the White House directly.

“We have no way to know what was said, but protecting our nation’s secrets is paramount,” Ryan’s spokesperson said. “The speaker hopes for a full explanation of the facts from the administration.”
