The Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF), a super PAC endorsed by the GOP leadership, announced its new ad “Kathy” which highlights Kathy Griffin’s support for Democratic House candidate Jon Ossoff of Georgia.

The ad, designed to influence Georgia’s special election, casts Griffin as a supporter of Ossoff in an attempt to frame him as the nominee of hysterical out of state liberals, who according to the ad, account for 95 percent of his campaign donations.

Griffin, who tweeted her support for Ossoff in March, generated an overwhelming negative public reaction after publishing a photo shoot Tuesday in which she poses with a bloody replica of President Trump’s severed head.

The video conveys the message that Ossoff is the candidate of the riotous “resistance” movement through a series of videos of masked vandals destroying property at anti-Trump protests.

Ossoff was criticized for not responding quickly to Griffin’s ad.

“Jon Ossoff has refused to denounce his supporter Kathy Griffin for over 48 hours after posting distributing images of her and President Trump. His silence speaks volumes,” said Corry Bliss, CLF Executive Director in a statement. “To disagree with a President, or any elected official, on issues or beliefs is normal and often even celebrated in our democracy, but the actions coming from extreme liberals like Kathy Griffin have absolutely no place in civil discourse. Ossoff’s silence further proves he can’t be trusted to represent Georgia values.”

The ad will begin running Thursday and is a component of the CLF’s $6.5 million independent expenditure campaign.

The Ossoff campaign later responded to the ad.

“Jon Ossoff believes what Kathy Griffin did was despicable and for Karen Handel’s superPAC to say otherwise is a disgrace. Karen Handel should immediately demand this ad be pulled before any more children have to see these disturbing images on TV” Sacha Haworth, communications director for the Ossoff campaign, said in a statement Thursday.

Editor’s Note: The original post said Ossoff remained silent on the video. This post has been updated to reflect the Ossoff Campaign’s response to Kathy Griffin’s video.
