The New York Times published a series of responses Monday from readers reacting to the abrupt firing of White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci, and one of the readers gave a succinct and frank response.
“I’m actually kind of sorry to see the Mooch depart. He was vulgar, but I get a sense he was honest,” the reader told TheNYT, which then published the response in a tweet.
The reader was referring to President Donald Trump’s decision to remove Scaramucci, a New York financier dubbed “Mooch.” He had become known during his ten-day stint as Trump’s press chief as someone with a quick wit and a biting tongue.
Other readers were not so kind.
“Even Aaron Sorkin couldn’t come up with a script that yielded this kind of drama. These comments would be comical if it weren’t for the fact that the White House lies at the center of the most powerful democracy on Earth,” another person said.
The decision to fire Scaramucci came shortly after Chief of Staff John Kelly becomes the White House’s chief adviser. Kelly told staff members in the White House that he intended to impose on the Trump administration a sense of order.
Trump had initially expected Scaramucci to begin duties on August 15, but the wise-cracking Wall Street financier has begun to wear out his welcome, according to officials who are familiar with the president’s decision.
