Blake Bortles, quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is continuing to struggle. The Jaguars lost 12-8 in their preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday.

Doug Marrone, head coach of the Jaguars is looking at the possibility of changing his starting quarterback. After the performance he saw Thursday night, Chad Henne, the backup quarterback, has a much better chance to gain the staring position.

According to USA Today, “Bortles completed 8 of 13 passes for 65 yards in four drives, all of which ended in a punt. Henne played with the Jaguars’ first-team offense and connected on 6 of 10 attempts for 44 yards.”

Marrone made this statement after the game, “”I’m not happy with the performance today.” He continued, “I’m not going to sit here and B.S. anyone ― everyone saw it out there. Whatever you want to call it, I’m still trying to evaluate who the best person is at the position, I told the quarterbacks, to lead the offense.”

After the game Bortles expressed that he understood any position is open for the taking.

While each player had a poor performance, they both have the chance to redeem themselves in the next two weeks before the regular season opening game. The season opener is scheduled for September 10 against the Houston Texans.
