Katy Tur’s new book includes mention of President Donald Trump’s reference to her as a “third rate” reporter and a “liar” during a 2015 campaign speech.
Trump castigated Tur in a Dec. 2015 speech in Charleston over perceived inaccurate coverage of a previous campaign rally that was interrupted by protestors.
“They did the most beautiful story about what a lie it was from NBC. She’s back there little Katy, she’s back there, what a lie it was, Katy Tur, what a lie it was from NBC to have written that,” Trump said of Tur’s reporting. “Third rate reporter. Remember that, third rate,” he added.
Trump attacked Tur in response to an early December tweet in which she said Trump “ends speech abruptly and leaves stage” after he was interrupted by Black Lives Matter protestors at a campaign event. NBC News later relayed Tur’s account of the campaign event in a news report titled “Black Lives Matter protesters cut off Donald Trump in North Carolina.”
Trump adamantly disagreed with Tur’s version of events and accused of her lying about the protestors shutting down the event.
