A wind farm landowner found at least 15 dead rabbits with snapped necks distributed on Oct. 18 under the propellers of a wind turbine near Greeley, Iowa.

An environmental consultant thinks “anti-wind people” may have placed the rabbits under the turbine to attract birds into the propellers, reported NBC television affiliate KWWL. It appears someone “purposefully placed” the rabbits, according to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

“I don’t understand who would do something like this? I really don’t. The abundance of 15 bunnies laying on the ground like this under one turbine, it is pretty shocking,” Linda Slobodnik, the environmental consultant, told KWWL.

Slobodnik works for RPM Access, a clean energy company that leases the property where the dead black and white rabbits were scattered. At the time of the incident, the company was looking to build a new wind farm.

“I think there is a lot of people who will speak against the wind turbines. I think a lot of what they do is out of ignorance,” said Kevin Lehs, an RPM Access Project Manager.
