ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” ratings plummeted to a new season low, dropping 17 percent from the week before, according to Deadline Tuesday.
Whether it was because both the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens don’t have a large national following or the continued problems the league has faced due to the national anthem protests this season, the Ravens 23-16 victory in Maryland failed to get the large viewers like the week prior. Last night’s game set a new low for the 2017-2018 season, and was two percent lower than the previous low set from the October 16 battle between the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts. The 2016 game had 8.4 million viewers among adults aged 18-49.
In comparison, last week’s matchup between the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks had 10.8 million viewers in the same demographic.
To add context, Monday night’s game was down 33 percent in metered market results in comparison to the game played in Week 12 last year. There were 13.06 million people tuned in to that game.
During the national anthem, neither team’s players protested as the network opted not to air the entire singing of the “Star Spangled Banner.”
