President Trump is “very eager” to meet with Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his legal team is in “active discussions” about an interview, says White House lawyer Ty Cobb.

In an interview with CBS News’ Major Garrett, Cobb also said that he believes that the Mueller probe will wrap up in four to six weeks.

Cobb’s interview will air Friday on Garrett’s podcast, “The Takeout.”

Cobb has maintained an optimistic view of the Mueller investigation, which is looking into campaign collusion as well as obstruction of justice.

Last year, Cobb predicted that the investigation would be over by Thanksgiving or by the end of 2017 at the latest.

Speculation about a Trump interview with Mueller has gained steam in recent weeks. And while Trump said over the summer that he would be willing to meet with Mueller, he recently suggested that a meeting would not be necessary.

“When they have no collusion and nobody’s found any collusion at any level, it seems unlikely that you’d even have an interview,” Trump said last week.
