Donald Trump called Andrew McCabe’s wife, Jill, a “loser” according to a recent report.
According to NBC News, Donald Trump called McCabe after he fired of James Comey. The president was very upset that Comey was allowed to continue to use FBI aircraft after his firing. On the call, Trump also referred to Jill McCabe as a “loser” for failing to get elected in a 2015 Virginia state Senate race.
Per the report, “McCabe told the president he hadn’t been asked to authorize Comey’s flight, but if anyone had asked, he would have approved it.”
The president was silent for a moment and then turned on McCabe, suggesting he ask his wife how it feels to be a loser — an apparent reference to a failed campaign for state office in Virginia that McCabe’s wife made in 2015.
McCabe replied: “OK, sir.” Trump then hung up the phone.
Both the White House and the FBI declined to comment on the call.
Trump has been critical of McCabe’s wife receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations from a Clinton-backed group. Trump tweeted about the potential conflict of interest last year:
McCabe resigned without warning Monday afternoon.
Reports now indicate that his resignation came after being caught up in the FBI’s internal investigation over the handling of the Hillary Clinton email scandal.
