You’re out of your mind if you don’t love Olympic hockey.

This year there won’t be a single NHL player in the games. It’s a new and fun dynamic, but hockey will always be the best no matter what happens.

Don’t get me wrong. There are plenty of great things about the winter Olympics, but nothing will trump hockey. It’s a sport that is simply majestic, especially when the elite are playing.

There is also a serious nostalgia angle to the sport when it comes to the Olympics. You can’t bring up the Miracle on Ice in this country without bringing a smile to somebody’s face. It’s one of the greatest moments in American history. A group of college kids stood up to the evil empire, didn’t back down and walked away with gold medal. It was simply beautiful.

I’ll watch some of the other events for sure. I enjoy watching America dominate, but I’m not missing a single second of America’s hockey team taking the ice. We haven’t won a gold medal since 1980. That’s way too long of a dry streak, but maybe this is our year again.

It’ll bring a tear to my eye if our boys in the red, white and blue walk away with the top prize this year. It’s been a long 38 years, but I have a sense big things are on the horizon.

If you can’t get in the spirit of some Olympic hockey then I just don’t know how to help you.
