Former President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama unveiled their official portraits at the National Portrait Gallery Monday morning.
The reveals occurred before a star-studded audience and received a mixed reaction online.
All modern president’s have their portraits hanging in the museum.
President Obama chose Kehinde Wiley as his painter. Wiley’s style is
described as:
A Yale University-trained painter famous for his depiction of African-Americans posed in the style of Old Master paintings, regal, formal and filled with pops of color.

“How about that? That’s pretty sharp,” Obama said after the unveiling. However, many
critics online thought the painting was peculiar, at best.
