An Indian woman was detained following her charade of posing as a groom to get dowries from two brides, according to local police Thursday.
Krishna Sen, 31, is charged with impersonation, fraud and forgery after disguising herself as a groom to get dowries from two wives, the Times of India reported. While an illegal practice since 1961, Sen successfully pulled off the scheme since 2014 — she allegedly posed as a man, Sweety Sen, to get wives off Facebook, the Daily Mail reported.
Sen married her first wife in 2014 after posing as a successful businessman. The wife allegedly discovered her marriage was a sham and Sen threatened her. The couple soon separated after the marriage.
Sen then married another woman in 2016. The second wife told police Sen kept trying to harass her family for a dowry, which ultimately led to her arrest.
In order to hide her gender, she reportedly never undressed in front of the wives, spoke in a deep voice, smoked, drank alcohol and rode a motorcycle. Sen also disguised herself by using sex toys and only having sex in darkness.
“With male hairstyle, dress and behaviour, Krishna used to live a male life. Nobody ever doubted Krishna,” said a police officer, according to BBC, adding that she walked like a “confident man.”
Doctors confirmed that Sen was a woman through a medical examination, added BBC.
