Vice President Mike Pence celebrated North Korea Freedom Week Wednesday by tweeting a photo of a meeting he had with defectors from the regime.
Pence didn’t mention Kim Jong Un by name but called out North Korea’s leaders for running an “oppressive regime.”
On this North Korea Freedom Week, I remember the moving meeting w/ defectors who fled the oppressive regime in search of a better life and my time with Otto Warmbier’s amazing family. We are working hard on denuclearization and peace. It would be great for America and the world! pic.twitter.com/yLPRFneMlU

The North Korea Freedom Coalition states that the purpose of this week is to, “[raise] awareness on dire human rights situation that North Korean people face every day, and open to the public so that anyone can join.”
The Trump administration has made progress towards negotiations on the Korean peninsula. During a rally in Michigan over the weekend, the crowd chanted, “Nobel! Nobel!” at President Trump, suggesting that he should get a Nobel Peace Prize for his work. (RELATED: Trump Brings Up North Korea — The Audience Erupts In Chants Of ‘Nobel! Nobel!’)
