President Donald Trump endorsed Mississippi Republican Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith on Thursday evening for the special election in November to fill former Republican Sen. Thad Cochran’s seat.

“[Cindy Hyde-Smith] has helped me put America First! She’s strong on the Wall, is helping me create Jobs, loves our Vets and fights for our conservative judges … ” Trump tweeted.

” … Cindy has voted for our Agenda in the Senate 100% of the time and has my complete and total Endorsement,” he continued. “We need Cindy to win Mississippi!” (RELATED: Trump Endorses Billionaire Philanthropist Foster Friess For Governor In Wyoming)

Hyde-Smith is considered to be the establishment favored candidate in the tight race against conservative state Sen. Chris McDaniel and former Democratic Rep. Mike Espy, according to The Hill. She was appointed by Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant to replace Cochran after he retired due to health concerns. Hyde-Smith was a Democrat until 2010, a fact her opponents seized upon.

“I could not be more honored to have your endorsement, [President Trump]!” Hyde-Smith tweeted in response to the president.

The Mississippi senator also thanked the president for his endorsement in a separate statement, saying that she has been consistently voting for his agenda because “he is taking the right steps to make this country great again,” according to The Washington Examiner. She also praised certain agenda items such as reducing taxes, securing the U.S.-Mexico border and judicial nominations.

Five of the eight candidates Trump endorsed in special elections won their races.
