Americans were quick to respond when Nike announced the new face of their next ad campaign: embattled former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Shoes were set on fire and even microwaved in viral videos shared on Twitter after the endorsement went public.

Kaepernick, who has not been signed to a team for the last two seasons, is now appearing on Nike ads along with the phrase, “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”
