Just when it seemed like the issue of NFL anthem protests were dying down, Nike decided to gaslight the culture wars.
Controversial former San Francisco 49ers and current NFL free-agent quarterback Collin Kaepernick recently signed a decade-long deal with the athletic apparel empire to market his activism, and the controversial issues that the former QB has championed immediately came back to the forefront.
Kaepernick, of course, became one of the most polarizing athletes of the 21st century for his decision to take a knee during the national anthem before games during the 2016 NFL season. Kaepernick has been out of the league ever since and, it seems unlikely that he will sign with a team, but this deal ensures that he will remain in the spotlight.
