Blake Shelton is joining Kelly Clarkson as a voice actor on the upcoming animated film “UglyDolls,” STXfilms announced Thursday.
“Blake [Shelton] is one of country music’s most talented and highly regarded artists, and his signature wit and infectious charisma lend themselves perfectly to the character of Ox, who fancies himself a de facto Mayor of the Uglydolls,” Adam Fogelson, chairman of STXfilms shared with Variety.
Nick Jonas, Pitbull, Wanda Sykes and Gabriel Iglesias are also on board with the film. Shelton will reportedly perform original songs for the film in addition to giving voice to the character Ox.
“An animated adventure in which the free-spirited UglyDolls confront what it means to be different, struggle with a desire to be loved, and ultimately discover who you truly are is what matters most,” a description of the movie on IMDb read.
Shelton’s previous appearances on the big screen include as a voice judge on “Pitch Perfect 2,” Wyatt Earp on Adam Sandler’s “The Ridiculous 6” and the voice of Earl Pig on “The Angry Birds.”
“Uglydolls” is set to hit theaters in May 2019, with plans for an animated kid series to air on Hulu.
