President Donald Trump accused Democrats of dragging people out of the woodwork to accuse Judge Brett Kavanaugh of decades-old sexual assault in an appearance at the U.N. General Assembly on Wednesday.

“The Democrats are playing this game that disgraceful. It’s a disgrace to the country. I think you will see it in the midterms,” Trump said, adding, “[Kavanaugh] is a high-quality person. They are bringing people out of woods. They can do it to anybody.”

Trump has staunchly defended Kavanaugh against the latest allegation of sexual assault made against him by a woman represented by Democratic lawyer Michael Avenatti. Trump attacked Avenatti on Twitter before his appearance:

Trump continued his criticism of Avenatti during his press appearance: “If you look at this lawyer that just came out, he is a low-life. He represented Democrats. Nobody ever talks about that. He is a Democrat lawyer. Not a very good one, but he is a Democrat lawyer. So, it’s a horrible con game.”

Kavanaugh will testify before the committee Thursday about allegations made against him by Avenatti’s client Julie Swetnick, Deborah Ramirez and Dr. Christine Ford. He will testify, “There has been a frenzy to come up with something — anything, no matter how far-fetched or odious — that will block a vote on my nomination. These are last minute smears, pure and simple.”

“The truth is that I have never sexually assaulted anyone — not in high school, not in college, not ever,” Kavanaugh said.
