New York Islanders draft pick Ruslan Iskhakov suffered a brutal hit Tuesday night.
Iskhakov, who currently plays for UConn, took a shot to the head in a game against Quinnipiac. He laid on the ice without moving at all for some time.
Luckily, he has since been released from the hospital, but it’s still the kind of hit that will have you cringing. Check out the video below.
This is the hit on Ruslan Iskhakov I tweeted about earlier. Scariest thing I’ve ever seen at a live hockey game. pic.twitter.com/B1xDah05Ns

Glad @UConnMHOC Ruslan Iskhakov was released from hospital after big hit. He’s back on campus, doing well @WTNH pic.twitter.com/eEakItum9U

That’s the type of contact that would probably start a massive brawl in the NHL. It’s the kind of hit that stays with you for a long time. (RELATED: NHL Legend Sues Over Brain Injuries. The League Might Be In Big Trouble)

He’s damn lucky he didn’t break his neck, collarbone or a variety of other things. Was that hit legal? It’s kind of a gray area from what I can see, but it’s certainly not a hit that should have been initiated. There’s no doubt about that at all in my mind.
Sometimes, as the defender in hockey you just need to know when to pull back. Otherwise, you’re fixing to get punched in the face.
Either way, I think it’s safe to say the Islanders were probably freaking out when they saw this tape. Hopefully, Ruslan is back on the ice soon.
