President Donald Trump received a standing ovation at Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast when he defended pro-life values.

The president, who recently condemned comments about late-term abortion by Virginia Democrats, used the breakfast as an opportunity to reaffirm the lives of unborn children.

“As part of our commitment to building a just and loving society, we must cherish the dignity and sanctity of innocent human life,” Trump told attendees. “All children born and unborn are made in the holy image of God.”

The crowd erupted with applause and whistles, giving the president a standing ovation for nearly thirty seconds after hearing his remarks.

“Every life is sacred, and every soul is a precious gift from heaven. As the Lord says in Jeremiah, ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart,”’ Trump added.

Trump told The Daily Caller in an exclusive interview last week that he found Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam and Democratic Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran’s advocacy of late-term abortion to be “terrible.” (EXCLUSIVE: Trump Rips Virginia Dems On Late-Term Abortion)

“Do you remember when I said Hillary Clinton was willing to rip the baby out of the womb? That’s what it is, that’s what they’re doing, it’s terrible,” the president asserted.

He reiterated such sentiments in his State of the Union address and called on Congress to ban late-term abortion on Tuesday, stating, “To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking the Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb.”
