Democratic Rep. Joe Kennedy III lost to Ed Markey in the Massachusetts primary on Sept. 1, making it the first time in history a Kennedy lost a Congressional race in the state, according to the Associated Press.
Kennedy, the 39-year-old grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, took on Markey, a sitting senator. He was favored to win the race when he entered last year, according to Politico, but as the election got closer Kennedy became the underdog. Some have suggested that the Kennedy dynasty ended with Joe III’s loss. (RELATED: Massachusetts Sen Ed Markey Beats Rep Joe Kennedy III In Contentious Primary)
