12-Year-Old Among Victims Of Nine City Shootings In Same Night

Nine people, including a 12-year-old boy, were shot Wednesday in Chicago. Two of the victims died, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The boy was shot while driving with his father in the 1400 block of South Ridgeway Avenue in Lawndale, according to the Sun-Times. He was hit in the back, hip and back, but the boy is reportedly in stable condition at Stroger Hospital. (RELATED: Mayor Lightfoot Continues To Blame Federal Gun Laws For Chicago Gun Crime)

Less than an hour before, at around 8:15 p.m., another man was shot in the arm in Englewood on the South Side. He is also in stable condition, according to the Sun-Times.

Earlier in the afternoon, a woman was shot in the head and shoulder while parked in a South Austin Boulevard alley. The woman was taken to Loyola University Medical Center and remains in critical condition.

On Tuesday, six were shot, including one killed, in Chicago, resulting in one death, also according to the Sun-Times.

Additionally, four were killed and thirteen wounded Monday.

A total of 43 people were shot over the past weekend in Chicago, six fatally.

This comes as Chicago saw a massive spike in gun violence over the summer amid strict coronavirus restrictions and protests over the death of George Floyd. The Chicago Police Department reported a 139% increase in murders in July 2020 compared to July 2019.

An 8-year-old girl died in the hospital after she was shot Oct. 22 while doing her homework.
